The famed Pebble Beach Concours d\u2019Elegance will celebrate its 60th anniversary this August by recognizing the 75th anniversary of Jaguar. The Concours, of course, sprang up in association with the original Pebble Beach Sports Car Road Races in 1950, and the feature contest of that first meeting was won by Phil Hill in a Jaguar XK120.<\/p>\n
Among the famous Jaguars expected to be on display are: the 1935 SS90 that served as the prototype for the first car to carry the Jaguar name; early examples of both the SS1 and SS100; one of the C-Types raced by Phil Hill; the Le Mans-winning D-Type; the prototype XJ13; and the actual E-Type that debuted at the 1961 New York Auto Show.<\/p>\n
Beyond honoring Jaguar, the Concours will also feature Alfa Romeo, which is celebrating its centenary this year, famed American car builder Pierce Arrow, and Italian design house Ghia, as well as including special classes focusing on the 50th anniversary of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta, the centennial of the Indianapolis 500, hot rod \u201clakesters\u201d and other Bonneville racers, and pre-war American motorcycles.<\/p>\n
