The event is held as a benefit for the Port Jefferson Harbor Education and Arts Conservancy, which supports local cultural and educational events. The beautiful park in front of the Center overlooks the harbor where one can watch the ferry coming from Bridgeport, Conn., to the original starting point of the race.
