A rare, \u201cpontoon-fendered\u201d Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa will headline RM Auctions\u2019s 25th Anniversary Sports and Classics of Monterey event during Auto Week this August. The Scaglietti-designed TR is one of the most prized Ferraris ever, with only 21 built during a two-year run in 1957-\u201958. This car, chassis number 0738 TR, was originally raced in South America, and for the past 14 years has been actively campaigned in vintage racing wearing the yellow and green livery of Brazil\u2019s national racing colors. It will be joined at the auction by 22 other exceptional Ferraris, and all are expected to attract significant interest.<\/p>\n
Other offerings scheduled to cross the block include: a 1964 Shelby Cobra USRRC Roadster (CSX 2557) that is one of only six Cobras constructed to the USRRC cut-back door specification, and will be offered with no set reserve bid; the only remaining example of a 1967 Shelby American Can-Am \u201cCougar Cobra\u201d (002) that features a full alloy monocoque and was Carroll Shelby\u2019s first foray into Can-Am competition; and a 1931 Bugatti Type 51 (1132) with an extensive racing history, including the 1935 ARCA USA Grand Prix and the 1936 Vanderbilt Cup.<\/p>\n

Driven by Jean Blaton and Leon Dernier, the Ferrari was also victorious in the 1000 Km of the N\u00fcrburgring earlier that year. This car has been in private collections for many years, and was last seen in public at Road America in 1990.<\/p>\n
Another one-of-a-kind machine consigned to the Mecum Monterey Auction is the ex-Tony DeLorenzo 1967 Corvette L88 roadster that was successfully raced by DeLorenzo for a number of years before retiring from competition.
