Motor Racing Legends has announced the return of the Le Mans Legend historic support race to next year\u2019s Le Mans 24 Hours weekend. For 2011, the race will be for cars that were eligible for Le Mans from 1949 to 1965 This group includes everything from Aston Martin DB2s, Austin-Healeys, C-Type and D-Type Jaguars, through to the familiar archetypes of the 1960s: front- and mid-engined Ferraris, Morgans and MGBs, plus a vast array of other icons from this evocative era. Specifically excluded, however, will be Ford GT40s.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe 1950s and early \u201960s is, for many people, perhaps the most emotionally charged period of motor racing history,\u201d says Duncan Wiltshire of Motor Racing Legends. \u201cIt was a genuine golden era when the cars were not only beautiful, but also highly distinctive and instantly recognizable. For spectators (and there are some 230,000 at the Le Mans weekend), this makes the racing even more enthralling, as you don\u2019t need a wealth of historical knowledge to get excited by the sight of a Ferrari 250LM or Jaguar D-Type flat-out on a race track.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 45-minute race, for either one or two drivers, will take place on the full 8.5-mile Le Mans circuit on the morning of Saturday June 11, 2011, just a few hours before the start of the modern 24 Hours.<\/p>\n
