For a baker\u2019s dozen of years in the late 1950s and early \u201960s, Nassau in the Bahamas Islands hosted a week-long, end-of-year party disguised as a race meeting. It was an event that virtually everyone looked forward to and the cast of characters that wrote its history was truly world class. Men named Moss, Hill, Gurney, Foyt, Penske, Andretti, Donohue, McLaren and Rodriguez, among many others, drove Ferraris, Maseratis, Cobras, Corvettes, Chaparrals, Ford GTs, Scarabs and Lotuses to legendary victories and lasting glory around a succession of circuits in the Bahamian capital.<\/p>\n
Now a Revival of those storied events is being planned for later this year, scheduled to take place between November 30 and December 4, the traditional timeframe for the event. Headlining the festivities will be Sir Stirling Moss, who has accepted the invitation of Sir Arthur Foulkes, Governor General of the Bahamas, to attend as the first Patron of Speed Week. This inaugural Revival will also include a Revival Island Tour, Street Course Demonstration, Drag racing, a Concours d\u2019Elegance, Road Show, Fashion Show and Charity Ball. Although the emphasis seems to be on Commemoration as much as Competition, a \u201dTime Trial\u201d along the Nassau harbor front is also on the schedule.<\/p>\n
