Jackie Cooper, who was the first child actor, to be nominated for a major Academy Award, and who enjoyed a long career as an actor and director, has died at the age of 88.<\/p>\n
Beyond his Hollywood career, Cooper also spent several years racing cars, driving mainly Austin-Healeys in more than a dozen races during the early 1950s. His A-H 100S was one of the first four brought into the USA, and he raced it at Sebring in 1955, finishing 41st alongside teammate Roy Jackson-Moore.<\/p>\n
He may be best known to modern audiences as Perry White in the first three Superman movies, he also won Emmy Awards for directing episodes of M*A*S*H and The White Shadow.
