Really? How so, you may ask. While it\u2019s hard to imagine today\u2019s Williams Grand Prix car contributing a single iota of luxury to any road-going car, such was not the case during the early days of the automobile. In fact, you need look no farther than our cover story in Vintage Roadcar to see one of the most striking examples, the Duesenberg.<\/p>\n

Mention the Duesenberg name to most classic car enthusiasts and visions of opulent and often extravagant luxury cars like the Walker-bodied Model J that we feature this month, will come to their minds. In fact, the Duesenberg name for most has become synonymous with elegance and luxury. Yet, those of us more keenly aware of racing history know that the Duesenberg brothers, Fred and August, made a name for themselves almost exclusively in racing for ten years before they even began to build road cars. And it would be another six years before they fully devoted their talents to building one of the world\u2019s most luxurious automobiles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
