Just as it has established a reputation for featuring the top-selling lots at Scottsdale, Gooding & Company\u2019s Amelia Island Auction established a new record in bucolic Florida with the Drendel Family Collection\u2019s 1973 Porsche 917 Can-Am Spyder selling for $4.4 million (which also established dual records for the most expensive Porsche and 917 sold at auction). In all, 70 out of 77 lots found new homes for a total of $36 million and eleven world records were set in the process, with ten cars sold for more than $1 million each. While the racing Porsches collected by the Drendel Family generated the most excitement, the sheer variety and stunning condition of the remaining lots propelled the auction to the heights which saw it more than double the results from past years. With record-setting results becoming common place for Gooding we can only look forward with anticipation to Pebble Beach.<\/p>\n
