Mercedes-Benz Classic Center<\/h2>\n

In the world of classic cars, we\u2019ve grown accustomed to the fact that if you want to restore a historic vehicle, you are essentially on your own\u2014that is to say you will have to do it with parts and assistance from specialized vendors, not usually the original company that built the vehicle. This has become the norm for almost every classic vehicle\u2014but not for Mercedes-Benz.<\/p>\n

Mercedes-Benz is unique in several respects. For one, they are one of the few manufacturers that retained all their original design and engineering drawings dating all the way back to the late prewar era. As a result, in the 1990s, Mercedes-Benz came to the business realization that there was both brand value and money to be made by supporting and servicing the community of enthusiasts that collected and restored classic Mercedes.<\/p>\n

Therefore, in 1993, Mercedes-Benz opened their first \u201cClassic Center\u201d a stand-alone facility devoted to the parts and restoration of vintage Mercedes in Fellbach, Germany. With the U.S. comprising such a large portion of Mercedes-Benz\u2019s market, over the past 60 years, it soon became apparent that there was a need for a satellite Classic Center in the United States. As such, a Classic Center was opened, in Irvine, California, on June 6, 2006, under the direction of Mike Kunz.<\/p>\n

The Irvine Classic Center is a large facility that houses every resource necessary to either service a vintage Mercedes or complete a full, ground-up restoration. The 25,000-sq.ft. facilities include a full paint and body shop, nine technicians with expansive mechanical shop space and a parts inventory of over 50,000 classic Mercedes-Benz spares.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Classic Center\u2019s technical capabilities, it also serves as a dealership that both buys and sells significant Mercedes-Benzes. As part of this later service, an entire wing of the Classic Center is devoted to the display of dozens of vintage Mercedes-Benzes, many of them available for purchase.<\/p>\n

So while many enthusiasts of such classic brands as Austin-Healey, Bugatti and Alfa Romeo are left to source and complete restorations essentially on their own, Mercedes-Benz owners have the luxury of knowing that if they want their cherished classic restored to absolute factory standards, the Classic Center is there to assist them.<\/p>\n
