{"id":492640,"date":"2012-10-01T10:00:29","date_gmt":"2012-10-01T10:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=24459"},"modified":"2023-12-31T20:46:51","modified_gmt":"2023-12-31T20:46:51","slug":"1953-thompson-red-ram-special","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/1953-thompson-red-ram-special\/","title":{"rendered":"1953 Thompson \u201cRed Ram\u201d\u2008Special"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='memberful-global-teaser-content'>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Thompson \u201cRed Ram\u201d\u2008Special<\/h2>\n<p>The photo caption on page 31 of the November 1953 issue of Road &amp; Track read: \u201cA strange assortment of cars lined up for the feature of the day.\u201d The author was Bill Brant and the feature race noted was the Seafair Trophy at the inaugural Seafair Sports Car Races held on Saturday August 8, 1953 at Paine Air Force Base in Everett, Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Not only was the assortment of cars \u201cstrange,\u201d this was a race weekend that almost didn\u2019t happen. Apparently the Seafair Committee did not initially understand the level of interest in sports car racing at this time. However, with considerable prodding from the Northwestern Region of the SCCA, the Puget Sound Sports Car Club, the Air Force and the Seafair Celebration, the race was not only approved, but was scheduled in conjunction with the following day\u2019s unlimited hydroplane \u201cGold Cup\u201d race on Lake Washington.
