The 26th running of the British Columbia Historic Motor Races will be held May 25-26 at the Mission Raceway Park road course in Mission, B.C. Organized by the Vintage Racing Club of British Columbia (VRCBC), the meeting has been held since 1976 when first staged at the late, lamented Westwood circuit in Coquitlam, and has become the largest vintage race in Western Canada and among the most significant in the Pacific Northwest, with more than 100 vintage and historic racing cars and more than 3,000 spectators in attendance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe BCHMR is unique,\u201d said event chairman Tom Johnston. \u201cNowhere else in British Columbia can road racing fans get as up close and personal with these wonderful machines and their drivers. The paddock is open to the public all weekend and the on-track racing is fast and competitive, stirring nostalgic memories from a (mostly) bygone era of motor racing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Plans for the 2013 event include a celebration of the 60th anniversary of \u201cAmerica\u2019s Sports Car,\u201d the Chevrolet Corvette, as well as special races for single-seaters, including Formula Ford, Formula Vee and others. The VRCBC is currently working on an additional lineup of interesting racing cars, racing celebrities and fun activities that, once finalized, will be posted on both the Club\u2019s website, www.vrcbc.ca and the event website, www.bchmr.ca, as well as in the press.<\/p>\n
