The world\u2019s finest gathering of significant and authentic racing Ford GT40s will be assembled at the 2013 Goodwood Revival, September 13-15, for an exceptional one-model race. This will be the first time in history that a dedicated competition has been held for these iconic Ford racecars.<\/p>\n
The Revival\u2019s Whitsun Trophy race will mark 50 years since the genesis of Ford\u2019s GT40 program. Although the first GT40 wasn\u2019t completed until early 1964, the project actually began in 1963 when Henry Ford II\u2014snubbed by Enzo Ferrari over the sale of his company to the U.S. auto giant\u2014set out to beat Ferrari at his own game, with sights set firmly on victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.<\/p>\n
The GT40 was a development of Eric Broadley\u2019s Lola Mk6 GT that first raced in 1963. The resulting GT40 went on to become an endurance racing icon, with developmental versions winning at La Sarthe four years in a row, from 1966 to 1969. The Whitsun Trophy race will be a spectacular tribute to one of the world\u2019s most revered sports cars.<\/p>\n
