RM Auctions, the official auction house of the Amelia Island Concours d\u2019Elegance, makes its return to the beautiful Ritz-Carlton, March 9, 2013, for its annual Amelia Island, Florida, sale. In 2012, RM\u2019s Amelia Island sale achieved more than $23 million in sales with an impressive 88 percent of lots sold. Illustrating RM\u2019s international clientele and the sale\u2019s global appeal, bidders represented 16 countries around the world, including Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, Australia and the United Arab Emirates. On a national level, bidders represented 41 states across the United States. The top seller was a one-off 1929 Cord L-29 Hayes Coupe, which achieved $2,420,000 after a spirited bidding war. The 2013 event is set to build on RM\u2019s strong track record for presenting automobiles of exceptional quality and provenance, lifting the gavel on a dazzling array of approximately 80 blue-chip automobiles with an emphasis on elegant coachbuilt automobiles joined by a magnificent roster of important and historic sports and racing cars. Highlights of this year\u2019s sale include: a 1935 Duesenberg Model SJ Walker-LaGrande Convertible Coupe, one of just three produced and the only factory supercharged; a 1931 Duesenberg Model J Derham Tourster, one of eight original Toursters built by Derham in the classic era. Boasting a remarkable provenance, this example was formerly owned by Hollywood legend Joe E. Brown and infamous industrialist Howard Hughes, and more recently the long-term property of noted enthusiasts Otis Chandler and John McMullen (Est. $900,000 – $1,200,000); an award-winning, 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport \u201cSuperleggera\u201d Berlinetta by Touring, chassis 915030, (Est. $1,500,000 – $1,750,000); a trio of magnificent Cords from the private collection of Jim Fasnacht, headlined by an ACD Club-Certified Category 1 1930 Cord L-29 Sport Cabriolet by Voll & Ruhrbeck, chassis 2927898, the Berlin Show Car; and a highly desirable 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB, chassis 07751, (Est. $1,000,000 – $1,300,000).<\/p>\n
