The race weekend offered an interesting and diverse field of 100 historic racing cars circling the 11-turn, 2.238-mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca road course in Salinas, California.<\/p>\n<p>The HMSA LSR Invitational at Laguna Seca 2013 featured many notable entrants, including Jonathan Feiber\u2019s 1960 Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage; Erickson Shirley\u2019s 1959 Lister Chevrolet; Ned Spieker&#8217;s 1958 Maserati 200Si; Dennis Singleton&#8217;s 1968 Porsche 911 T\/R;Neil Alexander&#8217;s 1959 Porsche 718 RSK Spyder; Bill Lyon&#8217;s 1927 Bugatti Type 35B and 1960 Porsche 718 RS 60 Spyder; four-time Grand Prix motorcycle World Champion Eddie Lawson&#8217;s 1975 Osella PA3\/5; Jeff Lotman&#8217;s 1937 Jaguar SS-100; Steve and Lynn Park&#8217;s Cobras; Loren Liebel&#8217;s Porsche 962C; Charles Nearburg&#8217;s 1980 Williams FW07B; and last but certainly not least (in any way, shape or form), was Bruce Canepa&#8217;s 1972 Porsche 917\/10 Spyder.<\/p>\n<p>George Follmer piloted this Team Penske L&amp;M Porsche 917\/10 to victory in five of nine races during the 1972 Can-Am season, easily winning the Championship in the process. Powered by a twin-turbo 12 cylinder engine capable of making 1200 horsepower depending on boost, the dominating 917 could accelerate from a standstill to 200mph in 12 seconds and pull until 220mph. Mark Donohue famously quipped, \u201cIt is the only car I have ever driven that spins the tires at 200mph.\u201d This particular 917\/10 Spyder, chassis 917-10-003, sold for $5,830,000 at the <a title=\"2012 Mecum Monterey - Auction Report\" href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/mecum-monterey-2012-auction-report\/2\/\">2012 Mecum Monterey<\/a> auction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Similar to <a title=\"2010 HMSA LSR Invitational\" href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/lsr-invitational-by-hmsa-report-and-photo-gallery\/\">2010<\/a>, <a title=\"2011 HMSA LSR Invitational\" href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/lsr-invitational-hmsa-2011-photo-gallery\/\">2011<\/a> and <a title=\"2012 HMSA LSR Invitational\" href=\"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/hmsa-lsr-invitational-2012-report-and-photos\/\">2012<\/a>, Senior Photographer Dennis Gray also documented the 2013 running of the HMSA LSR Invitational, offering the following gallery that highlights many entrants from this year&#8217;s event.
