MG Vintage Racers celebrated its 18th Focus Event at VRG\u2019s \u201cJefferson 500\u201d at West Virginia\u2019s Summit Point Raceway the weekend of May 17-19, with more than 260 vintage racecars competing. MGVR selects one vintage race each year to designate as its Focus Event, and encourages all MG racers to attend. They work with the sanctioning body to include all-MG races, as well as hosting MGVR socials and presenting awards at the event. This year\u2019s Focus Event attracted 74 MG racers, which meant two separate all-MG races were necessary\u2014one for MG Ts and MGAs, and one race for MGBs and Midgets.<\/p>\n
In addition to a weekend of great racing, the following MGVR Awards were presented at VRG\u2019s banquet Saturday evening: Spirit Award, the \u201cBig Copper Bucket,\u201d presented to John Burgess, who was selected by his racing peers as having the best MG Vintage Racing Spirit; The Bill Parish Award went to Dave Nicholas for \u201cHaving the most fun without a concern for winning;\u201d The Doff of the Cap Award, to Joe Lightfoot as the MGB racer best \u201cPreserving the original heritage of MGB racers;\u201d and the MGB-V8 Trophy, given to Les Gonda (pictured) for finishing 1st overall in the MG race with his MGB-V8.<\/p>\n
MGVR\u2019s 2014 Focus Event will take place next September at Watkins Glen with SVRA, where the \u201c60 Anniversary of the Collier Brothers Memorial Trophy Race\u201d (for MGs) will be celebrated.
