The Fordwater Trophy race at the 2013 Goodwood Revival was held Sunday, September 15th at the 2.4-mile Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England.<\/p>\n

The 2013 Fordwater Trophy featured a diverse grid of production-based sports and GT cars of a type that raced between 1955 and 1960. The grid included the likes of AC, Alfa Romeo, Austin-Healey, Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, MG, Morgan, Porsche and others made for a close-fought race.<\/p>\n

David Smithies won the Fordwater Trophy for pre-1960 production-based sports and GT cars which kicked off Sunday\u2019s race card. The driver of the Austin-Healey 100\/6 didn\u2019t make life easy for himself, though. The pole-sitter blasted into the lead off the line, flanked by Jochen Mass\u2019 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing and Malcolm Paul\u2019s rapid Morgan Plus Four on the approach to Madgwick. Smithies muscled his way into the lead, only to spin at St Mary\u2019s first time around. Mass took the lead and pulled away from Paul who was racing hard with the Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France of Max Girardo. Smithies wasn\u2019t done, and made his way up the order and was on Mass\u2019 tail at half-distance. He made his move into Madgwick on the sixth tour and proceeded to pull away to claim a decisive victory. Mass was second, 5.7 seconds down, with Girardo finishing a mere 1.07 seconds ahead of Paul for the final spot on the podium.<\/p>\n
