Shelby Mustang KR500 and Porsche Turbo Carrera<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A 1976 Porsche Turbo Carrera and 1968 Shelby Mustang KR500 were among the first group of entrants accepted for the 2014 Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance, to be held May 2-4 at the Pinehurst Resort and Golf Club in North Carolina. The Turbo and the Mustang are representative of the featured classes for the 2nd annual event, the Ford Mustang’s 50th Anniversary and the 40th Anniversary of the Porsche Turbo.
\nThe 2014 Pinehurst Concours will feature 119 vintage autos judged in 12 classes. The competition kicks off a celebrated six-week period at the golf resort, which will host the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women\u2019s Open Championships in consecutive weeks in mid June.
\n\u201cThe Pinehurst Concours is extremely proud of its connection with Pinehurst Resort and the Southern hospitality associated with such a world-renowned location,\u201d said Pinehurst Concours executive director Jay Howard. \u201cWe incorporated a Pinehurst tradition \u2013 caddies \u2013 at our award ceremonies during the inaugural competition in 2013 and are one of the little \u2018touches\u2019 that helps make the Pinehurst Concours unique and memorable for entrants, judges and fans.\u201d
\nIn addition to the 1976 Porsche Turbo Carrera of Tim Lingerfelt and the 1968 Shelby Mustang KR500 of Debbie Rogers, the \u201cFirst Foursome\u201d entrants also included Rob VanDewoestine’s 1960 Plymouth Fury Golden Commando 395 Convertible and Roberta Holden’s 1905 Buick Model C Touring. U.S. Open Championship flags were presented to the Pinehurst Concours \u201cFirst Foursome\u201d \u2013 two males and two females.
\n\u201cI\u2019ve always believed certain automobiles are not only art but time capsules that remind us of the history of our country and of our younger lives,\u201d Rogers said. \u201cWith the rich history that is celebrated at Pinehurst I am proud and honored to be a part of this great Pinehurst Concours.\u201d
\n\u201cMy wife and I had the opportunity to exhibit an antique auto at the inaugural Pinehurst Concours d\u2019Elegance in 2013 and had a great time,\u201d added VanDewoestine. \u201cPinehurst is an excellent venue and the logistics for both the car exhibitors and spectators were extremely well run and very convenient. We are looking forward to attending again in 2014. Auto enthusiasts should not miss this classic event.\u201d
