It all began when Ferdinand Porsche opened his development and consulting firm, Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH, in Stuttgart in 1931. An early assignment came from the German government to develop a \u201cpeople\u2019s car,\u201d and the Beetle was born. In 1939, Porsche used many Beetle parts to develop the Porsche 64.
