1948 \u201cDietrich\u201d MGTC<\/h2>\n

I have a friend living in the Sunshine State with a spectacular collection of historic racing cars from the 1950s. For years I\u2019ve been needling him about letting me write an article about one of his wonderful machines, but he has been steadfast in his resistance. Last week he had the flu and I suppose I caught him in a weak moment. Shamelessly, I took full advantage of the unfair opportunity and made him promise. He did so, and now is regrettably stuck honoring his deathbed commitment with one big stipulation. My friend is \u00fcber-modest about his accumulations and also \u201coccasionally\u201d hides an acquisition from his wife so he insists on remaining anonymous. So in order to save yet another automotive marriage my friend will heretofore be known as Mr. Vino.<\/p>\n

Mr. Vino has long been partial to Italian and British racing weaponry, and became particularly enamored with the eponymous marque after reading Carl Goodwin\u2019s wonderful book They Started in MGs (2011, McFarland & Company, Inc.). Many of the great American drivers began their racing careers behind the wheel of an MG, and Goodwin\u2019s book does a wonderful job of chronicling that important story. Vino has searched off and on for a Lester MG, and Goodwin\u2019s book reignited that specific yearning. Vino has had great success sourcing cars from all parts of the globe, and he surreptitiously made his desires for a Lester MG known to the right people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
