Four competition cars from Mercedes-Benz will be the feature attractions at this year\u2019s Lime Rock Historic Festival 33, scheduled for this coming Labor Day weekend, September 3-7. Keeping with the Mercedes-Benz theme, Festival 33\u2019s Honored Guests will be Sir Stirling Moss himself and the M-B Classic Center\u2019s house driver, former Grand Prix star Jochen Mass.<\/p>\n
Perhaps the most famous of the quartet is the #722 300 SLR from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Stuttgart, Germany, with which Moss and co-driver Denis Jenkinson won the 1955 Mille Miglia in record time. It will be accompanied by a 1939 W154 Grand Prix car, one of the original Silver Arrows that dominated pre-war Grand Prix racing.<\/p>\n
A later Silver Arrow, a 1954 W196 Grand Prix car from The Revs Institute, will also be on hand, as will as 1914 Mercedes Grand Prix car like that which won the 1914 French GP, the last Grand Prix held before the outbreak of World War I. These four will be joined by a number of privately owned Mercedes-Benz racecars and roadcars.<\/p>\n
Each year\u2019s Historic Festival also features the Sunday in the Park Concours, which this year will honor collector Jim Taylor of Gloversville, N.Y., whose unique collection focuses on unrestored \u201csurvivor\u201d cars.<\/p>\n
Attendees will also be treated to extensive infrastructure investments made by the track as part of its Road to 60 Project.
