{"id":494690,"date":"2015-08-05T11:07:21","date_gmt":"2015-08-05T18:07:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=15011"},"modified":"2024-12-06T03:41:36","modified_gmt":"2024-12-06T03:41:36","slug":"gt350-changeover-for-russo-and-steele-monterey-auction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/gt350-changeover-for-russo-and-steele-monterey-auction\/","title":{"rendered":"Russo &#038; Steele Monterey (2015) &#8211; GT350 \u201cChangeover\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As this year\u2019s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion \u2014 set for next weekend at California\u2019s Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca \u2014 is honoring the Shelby Mustang GT350 as its featured marque on the car\u2019s 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary, it seems only fitting that a rare example of the car be available for sale at Russo and Steel\u2019s annual Monterey Auction.<\/p>\n<p>The GT350 in question (SN 6S213) is what\u2019s known as a \u201cchangeover\u201d car in that it was one of 262 built late in 1965 on basic \u201965 GT350 platforms, with all the standard GT350 performance modifications \u2014 full-length exhaust, functional rear brake-cooling ductwork, and plexiglass rear quarter windows \u2014 that make these changeover cars unique as reflections of Carroll Shelby\u2019s original, harder-core vision for the original GT350, yet combined with the updated visual cues of the 1966 cars.<\/p>\n<p>This GT350 is unique in that it is the only \u201965-\u201966 Shelby ever to win all three of the most prestigious awards available, the Concours Premier Award at the Shelby American Automobile Club\u2019s national convention, the Mustang Club of America\u2019s Grand National Thoroughbred Gold Award (twice) and the MCA\u2019s Authenticty Award.<\/p>\n<p>This Shelby retains its complete, matching numbers drivetrain; including the aluminum-case T-10 four-speed, and the engine, transmission, and rear end were completely inspected and refreshed to factory specifications during the one-owner car\u2019s recent restoration. This outstanding GT350 also does not carry the usual dual longitudinal racing stripes that grace the majority of other examples of the breed.
