1960 Scarab Formula 1 sold for \u00a3673,500<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Bonhams Goodwood Revival Auction 2015 was held Saturday 12th September at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in Chichester, England, resulting in total sales of \u00a312.7 million. More than 350 lots of motor cars, aeroplanes and automobilia went under the hammer in front of a packed crowd of bidders.<\/p>\n

James Knight, Bonhams International Group Motoring Director, said, \u201cFor the first time at Revival, this year we created a \u2018drive through\u2019 auction, so bidders were able to see and hear the lots as they came under the hammer. We always enjoy coming to the Goodwood Revival, it\u2019s an event with great atmosphere, great energy, and we\u2019re very proud to continue our long-term partnership with the World\u2019s greatest historic race meeting.”<\/p>\n

The top result at the 2015 Bonhams Goodwood Revival went the 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible that brought \u00a31,087,900. One of 123 DB5 convertibles built, chassis DB5\/C\/2119\/R was delivered new to the UK. Finished in California Sage over sand Connolly hide, the DB5 was rebuilt by marque specialists in 2005.<\/p>\n

The first, home-grown, all-American team of Formula 1 racing cars went under the hammer. Named after the legendary Egyptian \u2018good luck\u2019 beetle, the \u2018Scarabs\u2019 saw spirited bidding in the room, on the telephone and online. The 1960 Scarab-Offenhauser Formula 1 Intercontinental Formula Racing Single-Seater sold for \u00a3673,500, the 1960-Type Scarab-Offenhauser Formula 1 Intercontinental Formula Racing Single-Seater sold for \u00a3328,540 and the 1956 Fiat-Bartoletti\u00a0Tipo\u00a0642 Diesel-Engined Racing Car Transporter sold for \u00a3656,700. The 1958-Type Scarab-Chevrolet Mark I Sports-Racing Two-Seater that did not find a buyer under the hammer was later sold to a European bidder for \u00a3650,000.<\/p>\n

The blue Bentley S3 Continental \u2018Flying Spur\u2019 that took Keith Richards and friends on a drug-fuelled adventure from England to Morocco sold above estimate, achieving \u00a3763,100.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a car meant to be driven fast at night,\u201d Richards said, in his 2010 autobiography, Life<\/em>. \u201cHaving this car was already heading for trouble, breaking the rules of the establishment, driving a car I was definitely not born in to. \u2018Blue Lena\u2019 had carried us on many an acid-fuelled journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eight children\u2019s race-cars, including half-scale Ferraris and pedal cars, all offered by Chris Evans sold well. One of the highlights was a rare \u2018Bimbo V12 Racer\u2019 two-seat child\u2019s motorised car by S.I.L.A. of Turin, sold for double estimate at \u00a313,750. Chris Evans\u2019 automobilia sale raised \u00a365,280, all of which will be donated to BBC charity Children in Need. The highlight of Chris Evans\u2019 cars was the 1963 Ferrari 250 GT SWB \u2018Alloy\u2019 Berlinetta recreation, which sold for \u00a3606,300.<\/p>\n
