Hot and sunny skies greeted both participants and the multitude of spectators who came to Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego for the event.<\/p>\n<p>Among the exciting contests they witnessed was a Historic Trans-Am race where leader Walter Brown (1970 Camaro) almost lost his win with a fumble in the final corner, but recovered to edge runner-up Ken Epsman (1971 Javelin) at the flag. Cal Meeker was the weekend\u2019s only double winner, taking the checkered flag first in both the combined Groups 5 and 7 race for Sports Racing Cars with his 1973 Lola T292, and Group 9 for \u201cWings and Slicks\u201d with his 1979 Ralt RT-1.
