The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2016 Auction will be held January 23-31 at the WestWorld facility in Scottsdale, Arizona. Barrett-Jackson\u2019s 45th annual Arizona Auction Week sale will feature the largest docket in its history, with more than 1,500 classics, exotics, muscle cars, hot rods, resto-mods and more set to cross the auction block.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur 2016 Scottsdale auction is particularly meaningful because it celebrates our 45th anniversary,\u201d said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. \u201cMy father, Russ Jackson, and his friend, Tom Barrett, started the auction with one auction and a few select cars. \u00a0Our 45th anniversary is as much about our future as our past and that\u2019s why we continue to bring new assets to our events, such as the Experts\u2019 Symposiums.\u201d<\/p>\n

New to the 45th Anniversary Scottsdale Auction will be the Experts\u2019 Symposiums held early in the week. Here, enthusiasts can get an idea about what to look for when buying a car and hear from Barrett-Jackson\u2019s team of experts. This team works at each event to help review certain high-end and rare cars that may be represented, by the consignor, as having matching numbers or documented with show provenance. Returning in 2016 for the fifth consecutive year is the Salon Collection, which offers consignments that represent some of the most influential moments in automotive history and the best of what Barrett-Jackson has to offer. Among the cars rolling across the block, we found particular interest in the\u00a01950 Ferrari 195 S Inter Superleggera<\/a>. Chassis#\u00a00081 S would\u00a0make a fine dual-purpose machine eligible for events such as the Mille Miglia, Colorado Grand and Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti. Given its comfortable accommodations and impressive performance (comparable to a 166 MM), this early 5-speed Ferrari is particularly well-suited for rallies and driving events. This\u00a0195 S is offered with a tool kit, jack and manuals, as well as a complete report compiled by Marcel Massini that includes ownership history and copies of the original Ferrari Build Sheets. \u00a0As the first chassis in the 195 series and a former Torino show car with singular features, this Touring Coupe presents a most enticing opportunity.<\/p>\n

Representing the classic cars Barrett-Jackson began selling 45 years ago, a 1947 Talbot-Lago T-26 Worblaufen Cabriolet<\/a> will be one of the featured consignments in Scottsdale. This is one of three Talbot-Lago T-26 Cabriolets built by the Carrosserie Worblaufen of Switzerland. Worblaufen was one of the most important Swiss coachbuilders for passenger cars, producing many elegant cabriolets and roadsters on prewar Isotta-Fraschini, Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo and Bugatti chassis. After World War II, they worked on Talbot-Lago, Delahaye, Bentley and Lancia. The sporty chassis of the Talbot-Lago T-26 was a favorite of European coachbuilders. The T-26 Cabriolet has a 4.5-liter, 6-cylinder engine and a Wilson pre-selector gearbox that was used in both Talbot race and road cars. This car is being offered for sale for the first time in 24 years.<\/p>\n

Another offering from the Salon Collection is a 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom II Kellner Cabriolet<\/a>. \u00a0Described to have been\u00a0originally delivered in May 1934 to Edmond Blawl of St. Cloud, France, this Phantom II is a\u00a0marriage of one of the most desirable chassis of its day with the\u00a0coachwork of one of France’s most respected body builders, Kellner. \u00a0Acquired later by\u00a0K.C. Dobson of Surrey, England, and subsequently purchased by Sir Ashley Haveden in 1951, the Rolls-Royce would eventually make its way to the United States where it would undergo restoration later in its life. \u00a0The low-mile example was shown at the 1990 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance where it would earn\u00a0a Gwenn Graham Award for the Most Elegant Open Car and the following year score\u00a0a Best of Show award at both the\u00a0Chicago International Concours d’Elegance and the Fisher Island Concours d’Elegance.<\/p>\n
