{"id":495164,"date":"2016-01-27T11:28:01","date_gmt":"2016-01-27T19:28:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=25404"},"modified":"2024-03-01T05:27:18","modified_gmt":"2024-03-01T05:27:18","slug":"sebring-classic-12-announced-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/sebring-classic-12-announced-2\/","title":{"rendered":"HSR Classic Sebring 12 Hours (2016) &#8211; Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) has announced that its inaugural Classic 12 Hours of Sebring, Pistons and Props, Presented by Alan Jay Automotive Network \u2014 a celebration of the 12 Hours of Sebring and historic Hendricks Field \u2014 will debut this December at Sebring International Raceway.<\/p>\n<p>The event will follow the same format as HSR\u2019s Classic 24 Hour at Daytona presented by IMSA, which was recently run for the second time at Daytona International Speedway. The Daytona event has provided an excellent proof-of-concept, so HSR is adding Sebring to the mix.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe met with (Sebring President and General Manager) Wayne (Estes) during the recent Classic 24 Hour at Daytona,\u201d said HSR President David Hinton, \u201cand decided even before the final checkered flags flew that we had to do a similar event at Sebring. Wayne and his team at Sebring then had the amazing idea to make this not only a celebration of the 12 Hours but also the rich aviation history and heritage of the very facility on which we race each year. We look forward to what will certainly be a unique and exciting event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The on-track activity for the Classic 12 Hours of Sebring, Pistons and Props, will showcase run groups of period correct race cars from the last 50 to 60 years competing on the same circuit that is used each March for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Preliminary plans for the aviation celebration call for a vintage aircraft \u201cfly-in\u201d on Friday, with airplane and facility tours throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Sebring\u2018s motorsports heritage began with the running of the Sam Collier Six Hour Memorial Grand Prix on December 31, 1950. Founder and Promoter Alec Ulmann then established the first 12 Hours of Sebring in 1952. The race quickly evolved into America\u2019s most important international road racing event.
