A pair of million-dollar Shelby Cobras took top honors at Dana Mecum\u2019s 29th<\/sup> Original Spring Classic, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, the largest muscle car auction in the world. A 1967 427 Roadster<\/a> sold for $1,100,000, while a 1964 289 Roadster<\/a> hammered for an even $1,000,000. With the Cobras leading the way the auction sales totaled just short of $49 million, with a 70-percent sell-through rate. As expected, American iron dominated the Top 10, with only a 1972 Ferrari Dino GT breaking the Yankee stranglehold on top-dollar sales as the nine other slots were filled by four Shelby creations, two Boss 429 Mustangs, two Yenko Camaros and a Plymouth Hemi Cuda.<\/p>\n

The Joe McMurrey Collection of 17 cars, led by the top-selling Cobra 427 and the pair of GT350 Mustangs, brought in a total of $3,412,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith an increase of more than 20 percent in car sales from last year\u2019s event,\u201d said Consignment Director Frank Mecum, \u201cthis was another undeniably successful auction for Mecum, and a great testament to this year\u2019s continued growth and strong momentum.\u201d<\/p>\n
