The car was originally sold to serial Ferrari entrant Allen Guiberson of Dallas, and finished 2nd in its debut outing at the 1955 12 Hours of Sebring with Hill and Shelby at the wheel, prior to Hill winning the Del Monte Trophy at that year’s Pebble Beach road races. It was sold to brothers Dick and Jim Hall at season’s end, and the following year won again at Pebble Beach, this time with Shelby driving. For 1957 Jim Hall bought out his brother and continued racing it, mainly in Texas.

After its retirement from competition, Hall carefully preserved 0510 M in storage for nearly 40 years before having it expertly restored in the mid-1990s. Offered complete with its original drivetrain, 0510 M comes to market following an incredible 60 years in the ownership of Jim Hall.

“A fantastic piece of motorsport history, chassis 0510 M is likely the most original 750 Monza in existence; its provenance and importance are second to none,” stated Jack Boxstrom, Car Specialist, RM Sotheby’s. “Its highly successful competition history — which includes three legends of American racing — coupled with its superb condition and the fact it is offered directly by its owner of 60 years…place it in a class of its own.”

Also being offered is a 1966 Ford GT40 Mk I, chassis no. P/1057, that is one of the 50 examples built by Ford to satisfy FIA homologation regulations. It was one of 31 GT40s born as road cars, and remains one today. Originally sold to Nick Nero of Kansas City, Missouri, it spent the better part of its first decade as a daily driver for a handful of private owners, before entering hibernation in the early 1970s. In 1984, the car was acquired by respected GT40 restorer Robert Ash, who undertook a thorough restoration, including reconditioning of the original carburetors and unusual competition-style 180-degree crossover exhaust prior to its acquisition by its current owner in 1991. With single ownership for the past 25 years, and having never been offered publicly, this exceptional GT40 comes to Monterey fully serviced, including a rebuild of its original engine.

The 750 Monza and the GT40 Mk I join an impressive roster of 100 blue-chip collector cars slated for RM Sotheby’s 2016 Monterey sale at the Portola Hotel & Spa and Monterey Conference Center.
