A 1929 Duesenberg Model J \u201cDisappearing Top\u201d Convertible Coupe by Murphy drew the highest bid during RM Sotheby\u2019s Motor City Auction held in conjunction with the Concours d\u2019Elegance of America at St. John\u2019s in Plymouth, Michigan, last weekend. The Duesenberg sold for $1,540,000.<\/p>\n

The second-highest price paid was the $632,500 paid for a twin-turbocharged 2006 Saleen S7 supercar that is one of just 13 built and which had only 300 miles on its odometer, Another interesting sale was an Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Club Category One Certified 1930 Cord L-29 Cabriolet, <\/em>that had enjoyed the same owner since 1946, and sold for $187,000;<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Motor City auction continues to be a very consistent venue and provides a fantastic and fitting backdrop to celebrate America\u2019s rich automotive history,\u201d said Gord Duff, Car Specialist, RM Sotheby\u2019s. \u201cWe were delighted to offer such great vehicles as the Duesenberg Model J and the Cord L-29 as part of this year\u2019s lineup; their solid results reflect a continued healthy appetite for quality American Classics. The Duesenberg Model J sale was a particular highlight \u2014 it was great to be able to support the fundraising efforts of Hillsdale College with such a strong result, and to see the car go to a great new home.
