The second all-Porsche sale by Silverstone Auctions took place October 15 at the UK\u2019s Silverstone circuit, where 64 cars and 205 memorabilia items were up for grabs. The Memorabilia sale, held in the morning, showed a strong range of bidding, with many lots far exceeding their estimates, resulting in a \u201chappy days\u201d comment from the auctioneer.<\/p>\n
The buzz around the Porsche \u201cexperten\u201d in the salerooms of the Silverstone Wing buildings was that maybe the afternoon would be boom time when the cars would be the stars. However, though opinions may differ depending on whether you were the auctioneers or an interested bystander, this reporter thought things a bit slow. Some 42 lots sold, but a further 20 did not meet their reserve, including some very nice examples. It must be said, however, that Silverstone Auctions had brought together some great cars.<\/p>\n
The standout of the sale for me was a 1973 911 2.4 T with mechanical fuel injection. Estimated at \u00a315,000 to \u00a318,000 because it was clearly in need of some serious work, it sold for \u00a345,000 including all the costs involved. A very nice flat-nose 930, UK-registered RHD with good history, sold for \u00a3140,630 \u2014 again including costs. Boom time no, unless it\u2019s on memorabilia, although we will likely see a few of the cars that didn\u2019t sell again. Whatever the results, it was a great occasion and we look forward to next year\u2019s third renewal.<\/p>\n
