1955 Citro\u00ebn Traction Avant Light 15\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The UK\u2019s sales brochure from the Slough manufacturers of then Citro\u00ebn Traction Avant cars and the headline in The Light Car<\/em> magazine, of September 28, 1934, heralding the first new car, described it as The \u201cSuper Modern\u201d Citro\u00ebn. What\u2019s wrong with that you may ask? Well, while \u201csuper\u201d and \u201cmodern\u201d are agreeable adjectives, I believe they are a little under-rated in this instance. I would have said \u201cfuturistic,\u201d \u201cinnovative\u201d or \u201crevolutionary\u201d were more apt. For its year, the new Citro\u00ebn, unveiled to the public at the 1934 Paris Salon, was an advanced, state-of-the-art automobile. Front-wheel-drive (Traction Avant) was a concept as old as motoring itself, the first recorded use was in that latter part of the 1880s by another manufacturer, Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Parisienne, and used on its Victoria Combination powered by a De Dion-Bouton engine mounted on the front axle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
