Mecum Auctions took its collector-car auction show to the Mile High City this past weekend, July 22-23, with 591 vehicles on offer at the Denver Convention Center. In just two days, 411 vehicles hammered sold for a total of $11.4 million, with a 70-percent sell-through rate.<\/p>\n

The eclectic mix of cars at the auction was evidenced by the variety among the top 10 sellers, which were led by a 2016 Ferrari California T Convertible that gaveled for $165,000, and a 1960 Volkswagen 23-Window Samba Bus (above, photo courtesy of Mecum Auctions) that brought in $120,000.<\/p>\n

The top 10 sales at Mecum\u2019s 2017 Denver auction include (without buyer\u2019s premiums):<\/p>\n

1. 2016 Ferrari California T Convertible – $165,000<\/p>\n

2. 1960 Volkswagen 23-Window Samba Bus – $120,000<\/p>\n

3.1965 Shelby Cobra CSX4000 Series – $115,000<\/p>\n

4. 1964 Shelby Cobra CSX7000 Series 50th Anniversary – $110,000<\/p>\n

5. 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback – $95,000<\/p>\n

6. 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible – $89,000<\/p>\n

7. 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 – $87,500<\/p>\n

8. 1936 Autocar Car Hauler – $86,000<\/p>\n

9. 1994 Land Rover Defender 90 – $86,000<\/p>\n

10. 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible – $85,000<\/p>\n

For its next sale, Mecum Auctions will return to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, August 3-5 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex with an estimated 1,000 classic and collector cars on offer.<\/p>\n

This is the fourth year for Mecum\u2019s auction in Harrisburg and the event continues to be popular among enthusiasts, with consignors and buyers expected from more than 25 states. Among the main attractions already consigned are: a 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible<\/a> in special-order Tahoe Turquoise with just 3,518 original miles: a 1969 Dodge Daytona<\/a> with a 440-cid V8 engine, a 727 TorqueFlite transmission and the rare Q5 Bright Turquoise Metallic with white wing combination exterior and the C6W White interior. The Daytona was sold new in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, shows just 33,000 believed-original miles, and is accompanied by the original build sheet and invoice; and a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird<\/a>, one of just 58 produced with a four-speed transmission. This well-documented consignment includes the original window sticker and two broadcast sheets following a restoration completed in 2002. The 426-cid\/425-hp Hemi V8 engine has just 17,000 original miles.<\/p>\n

Among the other attractions is a selection of nine Ford Mustangs from The Waterford Collection<\/a>, including a 1970 Mach 1 Fastback<\/a> that recently benefited from a nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration, and a collection of seven Fords of various desirable models from the estate of Michael Picone<\/a>, all offered at no reserve.
