{"id":496950,"date":"2017-09-06T11:43:53","date_gmt":"2017-09-06T18:43:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=50562"},"modified":"2024-01-26T15:01:04","modified_gmt":"2024-01-26T15:01:04","slug":"alfa-best-salon-prive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/alfa-best-salon-prive\/","title":{"rendered":"Salon Priv\u00e9 (2017) &#8211; Alfa Best"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The unique Salon Priv\u00e9 Double Concours Weekend presented some of the world\u2019s most desirable automobiles on the prestigious grounds of Blenheim Palace last week, with Thursday August 31\u2019s 12<sup>th<\/sup> annual Chubb Insurance Concours d\u2019El\u00e9gance followed by Saturday\u2019s inaugural Concours Masters (see separate story).<\/p>\n<p>Voted Best of Show for the Chubb concours was a 1960 Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM Pininfarina Superflow IV, a car from the USA that hadn\u2019t been shown in the UK before (above, photo courtesy of Salon Priv\u00e9). In addition to Best of Show honors, it also won the \u201cCurvaceous Coupes\u201d class. Falling just short of the Best of Show designation, yet still winning the \u201cRiviera Cruising\u201d category, was a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s event has been one of our most successful and pivotal Concours events to date,\u201d said Salon Priv\u00e9 Managing Director and Concours Chairman, Andrew Bagley, \u201ca game-changing year firmly planting Salon Priv\u00e9 on the global Concours scene. I was delighted to present each car and owner with their award, especially the unparalleled Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM Pininfarina Superflow IV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe car and owner travelled from the USA to make their UK Concours debut, and this historically important Alfa Romeo started off life as a racecar, driven by none other than Juan Manuel Fangio to 2<sup>nd<\/sup> place in the 1953 Mille Miglia. Bodied by Carrozzeria Colli, this ex-factory racecar then became a mule for Pininfarina and was modified no less than four times until 1960, when it became the Superflow IV with its Plexi roof.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other winners of Italian descent included the last-ever UK-delivered, right-hand-drive 1973 Ferrari 365 GTS\/4 \u2018Daytona\u2019 Spider, one of just 122 that originally left Maranello in that specification. Remaining with its current owner for more than 30 years, it won the hearts of Salon Priv\u00e9 guests and took home the People\u2019s Choice Award. Joining the Ferrari was a special 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400.
