{"id":496951,"date":"2017-09-06T12:34:21","date_gmt":"2017-09-06T19:34:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=50566"},"modified":"2023-12-12T00:59:24","modified_gmt":"2023-12-12T00:59:24","slug":"historic-festival-35-lime-rock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/historic-festival-35-lime-rock\/","title":{"rendered":"Lime Rock Historic Fall Festival (2017) &#8211; Recap &#038; Photo Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lime Rock Park Historic Festival 35 Presented by the Prestige Family of Fine Cars remains a pilgrimage for motoring enthusiasts heading to the 1.5-mile Connecticut circuit for five glorious days of automotive celebration with a parade, racing, concours, marque gatherings and an auction.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Festival featured three days of spirited historic racing, taking Formula Juniors, Tin Tops, grand tourers, road-going sporting and sports racing cars and not-quite-street-legal racers around the track over Labor Day weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Special Guest Ray Mallock set a quick and winning pace in the \u201cDuncan\u2019s Dilemma\u201d group of front-engined and drum-braked Formula Juniors with his 1960 Mallock U2 Mk2 (chassis 2) that was designed by his father and built by John Harwood; Ray oversaw its restoration to original 1960 specifications. Mallock and Duncan Rabagliati, chairman of the Formula Junior Historic Racing Association, joined the Lime Rock Park venue of the FJ Diamond Jubilee World Tour at the mid-point of their North American outings in quest of the Bob Woodward Trophy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKent\u2019s [Bain] Domain: \u201cNot Quite Street Legal\u201d group was closely contested between Richard Attwood and David Gussack. Attwood, 24 Hours of Le Mans and Monte Carlo Formula Junior race victor, charged to two wins and one second in a Holman Moody Ford GT40, while Gussack\u2019s 1963 Triumph Spitfire earned him one win and two runner-up placings. The other victory was secured by Simon Kirkby, lead driver coach of the private Lime Rock Drivers Club, who dogged the pair in his 1973 Alfa Romeo GTV.<\/p>\n<p>The full list of race winners follows below.<\/p>\n<p>The stalwarts were shining for the September 3 Sunday in the Park Concours d\u2019Elegance and Gathering of the Marques. Collectors and fans were undaunted by the rainy remnants of Hurricane Harvey, traversing the track lined with stellar cars and motorcycles. Ferraris dominated the winner\u2019s circle with Best of Show clinched by 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione Speciale (s\/n 2429GT), the one-off alloy-bodied Pininfarina \u201caerodynamico\u201d coupe brought by Scuderia N.E. in Stamford, Connecticut. Analog\/Shift, the premier retailer of vintage timepieces, sponsored the award, presenting a Universal Geneve Gents dress watch and the Best of Show trophy to the owner. A 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB long-nose exhibited by Robert Wilder of New York, was recognized with the People\u2019s Choice Award.<\/p>\n<p>Star attractions included Honored Collector Bruce Meyer\u2019s 1960 Chevrolet Corvette No. 2 that competed at Le Mans that year; the first production Shelby Cobra from 1962 (CSX 2001); the 1932 Ford Doane Spencer Roadster; the 1934 Pierson Brothers Coupe and a 1929 Bentley 4.5 Litre Vanden Plas Tourer.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Schudroff\u2019s 1952 Chrysler Ghia SWB Prototype and David Porter\u2019s 1967 Jaguar XKE OTS won Skip\u2019s Sunday Best and A Chairman\u2019s Choice, respectively. Special guest Duncan Rabagliati, Formula Junior Historic Racing Association chairman, selected Barney Hallingby\u2019s 1941 Tatra T87 Diplomat for his namesake award, with Honored Guest Richard Attwood giving the nod to James Glickenhaus\u2019 2006 Ferrari P4\/5 by Pininfarina.<\/p>\n<p>A variety of cars garnered Best in Class awards, including Ray Mallock\u2019s 1960 U2 MK2 FJ, the Collier Collection at the Revs Institute\u2019s 1966 Ford GT40 #1049, Dennis Nicotra\u2019s 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS, Bill King\u2019s 1951 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT and Steven Harris\u2019 1960 Porsche 356B Roadster.<\/p>\n<p>Among the Lime Rock Select awards were Gwen and Parker Ackley\u2019s 1911 Hupmobile 20B, James Kaim\u2019s and Walter Eisenstark\u2019s 1990 Studebaker Avanti, Michael Schudroff\u2019s 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB\/4 Daytona Spider, Alden Sherman\u2019s 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Drophead and a 1962 Stanguellini Delfino FJ from The Auriana Collection.
