Masters Historic Racing staged a pair of Formula One races last weekend, the first the European season finale at Estoril, Portugal, the second a support round at Formula One\u2019s United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n

The Estoril contest proved contentious, as first heat winner on the road, Martin Bullock (Williams FW06), was given a time penalty for first-lap contact that dropped the Australian to 3rd<\/sup> behind winner Jason Wright (Shadow DN8) and runner-up Joaquin Folsch (McLaren M19C). The second Portuguese heat was won by Nick Padmore (Shadow DN5) over Max Smith-Hilliard (Fittipaldi F5A) in 2nd<\/sup> and Bullock 3rd<\/sup> again.<\/p>\n

In Texas the Masters competitors had a dry race on Saturday (above, photo courtesy of Masters Historic Racing) and a wet one on Sunday, when a third of the field elected not to start. Saturday\u2019s 10-lap contest was won by polesitter Greg Thornton (Lotus 91) from Mike Cantillon (Tyrrell 010) in 2nd<\/sup> and Katsuaki Kubota (Lotus 78), who had to fend off an aggressive attack from Texan Charles Nearburg (Williams FW07) in the late laps to secure the final podium place. Sunday\u2019s soggy second heat was won by Kubota, with Cantillon again taking 2nd<\/sup> and Chris Farrell (March 821) finishing 3rd <\/sup>as many drivers struggled with the streaming conditions.<\/p>\n
