A pair of 1966 Ferrari 275 GTBs topped last week\u2019s collector car auctions in conjunction with Florida\u2019s Amelia Island Concours d\u2019Elegance, both bringing in more than $2 million on Friday March 9. The top seller, from Gooding & Co., was the silver \u201cbarn find\u201d Long Nose Alloy example (above, photo courtesy of Gooding & Co.), that hammered for $2,530,000, while an immaculately presented red 275 GTB gaveled for $2,205,000 at RM Sotheby\u2019s sale.<\/p>\n

Overall, the three sales by Gooding, RM Sotheby\u2019s and Bonhams registered more that $77 million in sales, with 22 cars selling for $1 million or more, topped by the two Ferraris. Summaries for each of the auction houses follow.<\/p>\n

Gooding & Co<\/u><\/strong>.<\/u> posted n<\/strong>early $36 million in total sales, with an outstanding 95.4 percent sell-through rate. No fewer than 14 cars sold for $1m or more, and 13 new World Records were set.<\/p>\n

The automotive world was abuzz when Gooding & Company consigned the 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB mentioned above and a muscular 1967 Shelby 427 Cobra that had both been parked and left untouched in the same garage for a quarter of a century. While the Ferrari took overall top honors at $2,530,000, the 1967 Cobra sold for $1,045,000. Also, the 1957 Porsche 356 A 1500 GS Carrera Coupe that had been hidden from public view since 1972 fetched a good price of $506,000.<\/p>\n

    RM Sotheby\u2019s<\/u><\/strong> returned to Amelia Island for its 20th<\/sup> annual sale as the official auction house of the Amelia Island Concours d\u2019Elegance. With seven cars selling for more than $1 million, the single-day sale achieved $27.7 million in total sales with an 86 percent sell-through rate.<\/p>\n

    \"\"<\/a>Top honors went to the previously mentioned 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB, one of approximately 58 long-nose, torque-tube, triple-carburetor, steel-bodied examples built.     One of the most highly anticipated segments of the evening was the offering of Exclusively Porsche \u2014 The 964 Collection, a group of 11 limited-production Porsche 911 Type 964 variants assembled by a single owner. Standouts from the collection included the one-of-55 1993 911 Carrera RS 3.8 that sold for $1,655,000 to top the previous World Record for a Type 964 Porsche 911 Carrera RS sold at public auction. A second 1993 911 Carrera RS 3.8, with fewer than 800 kilometers on its clock, sold for $1,270,000.<\/p>\n

    \u201cOur 20th<\/sup> anniversary Amelia Island sale showed robust demand across the market with a strong 86 percent sell-through rate,\u201d said Gord Duff, Global Head of Auctions for RM Sotheby\u2019s. \u201cWe saw a number of long bidding contests drive results well over estimate for cars in virtually every category from American Classics from the 1931 Marmon Sixteen Coupe\u2026to the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 from the 964 Collection.\u201d<\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/u>Bonhams<\/u><\/strong>\u2019<\/u> 4th<\/sup> Annual Amelia Island Auction, held at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club, achieved several world auction records with a total of nearly $13.5 million in sales from an 87 percent sell-through rate, but with only one million-dollar car, a 20015 McLaren P1 that gaveled for $1,710,000. The second-highest seller was a 1959 Porsche 356A 1600 Carrera GS Coupe (below, photo courtesy of Bonhams) that went for $632,000.<\/p>\n

      \"\"<\/a>The auction did establish World Records for two Porsche models when a 1992 911 Turbo 3.3 Coupe and a 1989 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa were bought for $343,800 and $169,120, respectively. Other world records were set by a gorgeous 1947 Delahaye 135MS Coupe by Pininfarina that sold for $478,000, and a rare 1919 Pierce Arrow Series 51 4-Passenger Tourer that brought in $280,000.<\/p>\n
