{"id":497436,"date":"2018-03-20T13:33:22","date_gmt":"2018-03-20T13:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=56464"},"modified":"2024-12-08T03:50:46","modified_gmt":"2024-12-08T03:50:46","slug":"prescott-hillclimb-to-mark-80th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/prescott-hillclimb-to-mark-80th-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"Prescott Hillclimb (2018) \u2013 80th Anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To commemorate the 80<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Prescott Hillclimb, the Gloucestershire venue will celebrate this landmark occasion on Saturday July 14 with a special reunion of former hill record holders.<\/p>\n<p>The list of confirmed attendees reads like a Who\u2019s Who of British Hillclimbing, including: 1960s pacesetter and multiple Hillclimb champion David Boshier-Jones; Martyn Griffiths; David Grace; David Franklin; Alister Douglas-Osborn; and Chris Cramer, who plans to drive the 1985 British Hillclimb Championship-winning Gould 84G. Six-time Hillclimb champion Scott Moran will also be competing in his Gould, the most successful car in British Hillclimb history.<\/p>\n<p>The lady record holders will also be well represented, with Joy Rainey, Margaret Blankstone-Schoiber, Sandra Tomlin and Sue Young attending. The latter pair will be competing in their modern single-seater Pilbeam and Gould, respectively. Many of the racers will be reunited with suitable cars from their era, either for a parade or for full-on competition.<\/p>\n<p>The event will feature a strong field of 150 cars, including a special class for Bugattis (above, Allan Rhodes photo courtesy of Bugatti Owners Club). The event is supported by a round of the Bugatti Owners Club Aldon Classic Championship, and New Barn Cheltenham Land Rover Specialists \u201cB\u201d Licence Championship.<\/p>\n<p>As at the first event back in 1938, Prescott maintains spectator access to all areas. As motoring enthusiast Nick Mason once said: \u201cIt\u2019s club motor sport at its best, where visitors can mingle with the cars and speak to the drivers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prescott\u2019s 80<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary will be a relaxed day of competition featuring a full racing paddock, a strong nod to its history and some of the most delectable Bugattis in the UK.
