That was when Andy Green set the current World Land Speed Record of an average 766.035 mph taking him to Mach 1.02, which also made him the world\u2019s first supersonic car driver. And he did it in the jet-engined Thrust SSC at the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Warwickshire, England, on July 30, 1962, Andy went to St. Clave\u2019s Grammar School in Orpington, Kent, where he turned out to be brilliant at mathematics. He was noticed by Britain\u2019s Royal Air Force and they later gave him a RAF scholarship to Westerbrook College, Oxford, from which he graduated in maths with first class honors.
