{"id":497917,"date":"2018-11-13T12:41:06","date_gmt":"2018-11-13T20:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=67750"},"modified":"2024-05-24T01:36:00","modified_gmt":"2024-05-24T01:36:00","slug":"stutz-wins-of-best-of-show-at-hilton-head-concours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/stutz-wins-of-best-of-show-at-hilton-head-concours\/","title":{"rendered":"Hilton Head Island Concours (2016) &#8211; Stutz Wins of Best of Show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just as Amelia Island Concours d\u2019Elegance has long been linked with the start of Day Light Savings Time, the Hilton Head Island Concours d\u2019Elegance has been linked to the return to Standard Time.\u00a0 November 3-4, 2018, was the 17<sup>th\u00a0<\/sup>time that rare, exotic and interesting automobiles assembled on Hilton Head Island at the Port Royal Golf Club.\u00a0 The event is held on the Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend of November when the weather is typically southern fall, which means it is usually cool and dry \u2013 perfect for wandering around a beautifully landscaped golf course and looking at incredible automobiles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2018Winners-02.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-662186 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2018Winners-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2018Winners-02.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2018Winners-02-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2018Winners-02-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2018Winners-02-100x67.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2018Winners-02-770x513.jpg 770w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2018Winners-02-360x240.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2018Winners-02-370x247.jpg 370w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/2018Winners-02-293x195.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Saturday is the Car Club Showcase. \u00a0Car clubs are invited to bring their cars to the show field for attendees and spectators to see.\u00a0 A club can only be invited every other year, so you are pretty sure to see a new set of cars each year.\u00a0 This year, for example, the clubs attending included, among others, the Sunbeam Tigers East, Heart of Georgia Corvair Club, Great Smokey Mountain Region AACA, and Lowcountry Oyster and Motorcar Driving Society.\u00a0 There was considerable variety \u2013 something for everyone.\u00a0 Saturday\u2019s field also included some automobiles that would be seen on Sunday as well.\u00a0 Each year a collector is honored by the concours and asked to display some of his or her cars.\u00a0 This year\u2019s honoree was Paul Ianuario of Duncan, SC.\u00a0 He displayed four of his car on a green for both days &#8211; a 1912 Hudson Speedster, 1910 Chalmers Detroit, 1929 Packard Dietrich, and 1908 Cadillac Double Tulip Touring.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load\" title=\"Hilton Head Island Concours 2018\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zzXKrICyv90?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><noscript><iframe title=\"Hilton Head Island Concours 2018\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zzXKrICyv90?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>A particularly interesting display of cars was based on the theme of \u201cLife Along the Orient Express.\u201d\u00a0 The program explains that \u201c. . . the \u2018Life\u2019 exhibit includes Concours d\u2019Elegance classes showcasing the story of automotive excellence during these decades [1920s and 1930s] in Europe.\u00a0 The classes are made up of European Classic cars that embody Elegance and Speed. . . . These cars were the automobiles owned by the people who rode the Orient Express.\u201d\u00a0 From an Isotta Frashchini to a Renault 2CV, the cars displayed were spectacular.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_662188\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-662188\" style=\"width: 1080px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_1180-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-662188 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_1180-1.jpg\" alt=\"Andre Dubonnet named this creation &quot;Xenia&quot; in his wife&#8217;s memory.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Sunday, many of the cars of the Car Club Showcase were gone, replaced primarily by older, rarer automobiles.\u00a0 One particular display that attracted crowds were cars from the Peter and Merle Mullin collection of incredible Art Deco automobiles.\u00a0 Mullin provided three of the most beautiful cars ever created \u2013 on the left was a 1939 Delahaye Type 165 Cabriolet bodied by Figoni et Falaschi; Pat Palmer-Ball, Louisville, KY) presented by the Doerring family and Best Road &amp; Track vehicle (1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gull Wing, Jeff Files, Durham, NC). Attendees at the event also chose a 1929 Ford Station Wagon as their \u2018People\u2019s Choice\u2019 winner.
