It has been written that service quality at Barlow’s shop was occasionally less than stellar and one day, in 1948, an unhappy customer had an in-depth conversation with von Neumann, the result of which was Johnny departing International Motors. With that customer’s financial backing, Johnny opened his own import service concern in North Hollywood. Competition Motors, as it was named, would grow to become one of the most respected race shops in the country.

No Subscription?
