Jaguar’s famed test driver, race driver and engineer Norman Dewis has passed away at the age of 98.<\/p>\n

Dewis enjoyed a 33-year career at Jaguar, logging more than a million test miles, and is widely regarded as England\u2019s foremost test driver. He developed many of the marque\u2019s most famous models, including the Le Mans-winning C- and\u00a0D-Types, as well as the exquisite E-Type. He also set a land speed record of 172.412 mph with an XK120 on Belgium\u2019s Jabbeke Highway in 1953.<\/p>\n

While predominantly a valuable test driver for Jaguar, Dewis did race for the Coventry manufacturer as well, including co-driving a C-Type with no less than Stirling Moss in the 1952 Mille Miglia and doing a stint in the D-Type at Le Mans in 1955.<\/p>\n

In recent years Dewis served as a good will ambassador for the company, working with Jaguar Heritage to keep the name and its history alive and flourishing.<\/p>\n
