Attending shows is always fun, and you never know what you might find among the entries. The Highlands Motoring Festival<\/a> is a small show in the western North Carolina mountain town of Highlands. There were a number of very interesting automobiles in the show, including a \u201939 Ford racecar that appeared, at first, much less impressive than the Porsche Indycar that had also been entered. That is, less impressive until you hear that black Ford coupe\u2019s story.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe World\u2019s Most Famous Beach\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There is a single word that can be used when talking about \u201cThe World\u2019s Most Famous Beach\u201d \u2013 speed. That particular beach is, of course, Daytona Beach, in Florida. In his book, \u201cHigh Speed and Low Tide,\u201d Greg Fielden describes why the beach was attractive to those seeking speed: \u201cAt high tide, the surf swept the shoreline, softening the surface. As the Atlantic Ocean retreated at low tide, the sand dried and became a smooth natural speedway \u2013 some 200-feet wide and perhaps 20 miles long.\u201d Ultimate speed is one way to measure engineering excellence, and the beach provided the stage for the test.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
