After the success of the 250 SWB<\/a> Revival specification reveal, the UK based engineering firm and known Ferrari specialist,\u00a0GTO Engineering,<\/em>\u00a0just announced that they are underway with an exciting new project. The project, given the codename\u00a0Moderna,\u00a0will be a sub-1,000 kg car paying tribute to the best of Sixties motoring\u00a0but equipped with modern and motorsport-derived engineering, and all to be crafted by hand by\u00a0GTO Engineering<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The philosophy of\u00a0GTO Engineering<\/em>\u2019s new project\u00a0is to push the boundaries of contemporary craftsmanship using their expertise from building and maintaining a variety of road and race-worthy Ferraris<\/a> since 1991.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Moderna\u00a0will feature a tubular steel chassis with lightweight but\u00a0heavy-duty aluminum subframes, and\u00a0carbon fiber\u00a0will be incorporated into the car\u2019s shell. The main body will use F1<\/a>-type carbon fiber and the doors and bonnet will be crafted with aluminum to keep the Sixties sports car feel but save on weight.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Having more than 200 years of Ferrari experience, the team in\u00a0GTO Engineering<\/em>\u00a0plans to give the new car a racing theme by giving it motorsport-inspired components\u00a0to improve driver engagement, usability, and enjoyment.\u00a0 An independent all-around\u00a0suspension\u00a0and large-diameter wheels to integrate powerful yet lightweight brakes, which will also assist with\u00a0unsprung\u00a0mass.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exciting to finally talk about our new project \u2013 a car that we\u2019ve been discussing, sketching,\u00a0specifying\u00a0and honing for some time. Now it\u2019s in development and we\u2019re working alongside some incredible technical partners, we\u2019re ready to lift the cover off the design renderings and initial sketches and explain the fundamentals of what makes this new car tick.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\nGTO Engineering<\/em>\u00a0Managing Director, Mark Lyon\u00a0explained.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The new project\u2019s design has been greatly influenced by the cars that Mark Lyon,\u00a0GTO Engineering\u2019<\/em>s founder, has been working on since the firm was built in 1991. It will be a front-engined<\/a>, two-seater car\u00a0with a \u2018double-bubble\u2019 roof\u00a0and\u00a0a functional venting on the bonnet. The arches will also keep traditional styling elements, although updated electrics and internals will be added in the headlights, spotlights, rear lights, and exhausts.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve learnt from building the 250 SWB Revival, and working on a range of Ferraris, that a car\u2019s weight and engine are two of the key ingredients to make a good sports car. So, we knew that this car should be under a tonne and powered by a quad-cam V12 \u2013 an engine format we are familiar with and developing in-house. To accomplish the desired light weight, carbon fibre will be used, which obviously\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0available in the Sixties but a composite we will utilise alongside other materials. For example, the doors and bonnet feel and \u2018weight\u2019 when you open them, was something we knew we wanted to keep and that\u2019s why they\u2019ll be made in aluminium \u2013 they\u2019ll be lightweight but still give that \u2018reassuring\u2019 close and feel of a classic when the driver or passenger gets in and out, as well as opening and closing the bonnet.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Customers\u00a0will be able to fully customize and personalize the\u00a0sports car with a variety of paint, trim, and accessory options available. The options will not be limited to the finish as clients can also adjust components like suspension and gearbox options,\u00a0as each car will be made specifically to each owner\u2019s requirements and preferences. Each hand made car will be handcrafted in the UK.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
