As the sport moved onto purpose-built tracks and car designs became more sophisticated\u2014and unsuitable for pubic thoroughfares\u2014a need arose for transport of these racing specials. Open trailers and flatbed trucks were among the first devices pressed into this service and the category has since undergone a continual evolution so that today\u2019s full-service examples boast all the conveniences of home and shop.<\/p>\n<p>The photographs in this book show us how these \u201ctransporters\u201d took many different forms and shapes over time, from modified pickup trucks and panel vans through converted busses to fully enclosed semi-trailer rigs, and even luxury sedans adapted for new duty with truck beds installed.
