The 1970s were a decade many consider to be the pinnacle of Formula One Grand Prix racing as a sport, before it became strictly a bottom-line business. It was a different time, when spades were still called spades, mechanics would tell you the real reason their car retired and men of talent grew into men of stature.<\/p>\n

This is author Parker\u2019s follow up to 2003\u2019s Volume 1, and companion to his similar books featuring the \u201960s, \u201980s and \u201990s. Each year\u2019s chapter opens with a summary of that season\u2019s events, but the author\u2019s use of story captions to tell the tale and provide the insight for the more than 250 photographs illuminates the presentation and sets this book apart.<\/p>\n

Many of those images seem to be second-level scene-setters that may not have made print because others told the immediate story better in period. Now, however, viewed in a flashback context, they take us behind the scenes to show yet another facet of the F1 we know so well. We visit circuits long since vanished from the World Championship where we see cars that never made much more than cameo appearances on the scene and drivers who made it to F1, but didn\u2019t stay very long. Any F1 fan will find much enjoyment in this book.<\/p>\n
