Devoted fans of sports car history will be well-acquainted with historian J\u00e1nos Wimpffen\u2019s epic two-volume work Time and Two Seats, which chronicles the entire history of international sports car racing from 1953-1981. This landmark work was so comprehensive\u2014and massive in scale\u2014that Wimpffen was only able to include a handful of select photographs to correspond with each race. However, his latest work Open Roads & Front Engines is the first of a series of books that will ultimately serve as a photographic companion to Time And Two Seats.<\/p>\n

Open Roads & Front Engines is a very large format, beautifully reproduced photographic study of the World Sports Car Championship from 1953\u20131961. Com\u00adposed of mostly never-before-seen photographs, this first book takes the reader on a stunning visual trip back through every championship race, year by year. These races include Le Mans, the Mille Miglia, the Tourist Trophy, the Targa Florio, the N\u00fcrburgring 1000 Kms, Sebring, and even the Carrera Panamericana among others. With images from such notable photographers as Rodolfo Mailander, Bernard Cahier, Geoff Goddard, and Ozzie Lyons, supplemented with in-depth captions from Wimpffen, this book is as visually stunning as it is historically informative.<\/p>\n
