The Ford Escort represented the American automaker\u2019s first real foray into the off-roading landscape, and arguably its most successful too. Compared to the road-going version, the chassis was heavily reinforced and featured wider wheel arch extensions which differentiated it most easily from the regular car. Four large spotlights were also fitted for night stages. While not overly remarkable on paper, even for its time, the car\u2019s undisputable success was an important foundation in Ford\u2019s tenure in rally motorsport.<\/p>\n<p><a
