To mark the 45th anniversary of his first Indy win in 1970, \u201cLegends Day Honoring Al Unser presented by Firestone\u201d will take place Saturday, May 23.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFifty years ago I arrived at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as a rookie,\u201d said Unser, \u201cdrove for some remarkable teams, raced with my son and brother, drank the milk and my life was forever changed by this special place. I am honored to be named the 2015 Legend, and look forward to seeing the race fans and being a part of the events leading up to the spectacular annual Indy 500 Race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Unser will receive special recognition from Firestone during the Public Driver\u2019s Meeting, then will participate in a question and answer session, and later sign autographs for the fans on the IMS Pagoda Plaza Stage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of only three drivers to win the 500 four times, Unser holds the career record for most laps led (644) in his 27 Indianapolis 500 starts. The 17-year span between his first and last Indianapolis 500 victory (1970-1987) is also an event record. He is one of five drivers to win consecutive Indianapolis 500-Mile races, and in 1987 became the oldest driver to win the 500, five days short of his 48th birthday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Admission to IMS on \u201cLegends Day Honoring Al Unser presented by Firestone\u201d will be $10 for adults, with children 12 and under free when accompanied by an adult.\u2028The 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday May 24.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Four-time Indy 500 winner and three-time U.S. National Champion Al Unser will be honored during Legends Day at Indianapolis this May.
