{"id":81409,"date":"2019-06-14T12:07:12","date_gmt":"2019-06-14T19:07:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=81409"},"modified":"2023-12-10T03:51:21","modified_gmt":"2023-12-10T03:51:21","slug":"kevin-bartlett-to-join-leyburn-sprints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/kevin-bartlett-to-join-leyburn-sprints\/","title":{"rendered":"Leyburn Sprints (2019) &#8211; Kevin Bartlett to Join"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_714371\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-714371\" style=\"width: 1840px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/8a431f3d-6352-417e-b832-41fa20af7a56-e1560539018339-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-714371\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/8a431f3d-6352-417e-b832-41fa20af7a56-e1560539018339.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2902\" height=\"4038\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-714371\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kevin Bartlett<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kevin Bartlett, one of Australia\u2019s most popular racing drivers of the \u201960s, \u201970s and \u201980s, has joined the line-up of motorsport legends\u00a0who will celebrate the 70<sup>th\u00a0<\/sup>anniversary of the Australian Grand Prix at the Historic Leyburn Sprints, on the Queensland Darling Downs, in August.<\/p>\n<p>Bartlett will attend the Sprints on August 17-18, with his 1982 Bathurst co-driver Colin Bond, 1981 Bathurst winner John French, Queensland ace Bill Gates and several other former drivers yet to be announced.<\/p>\n<p>Now aged 79, Bartlett \u2013 or KB or Big Rev Kev, as he was known \u2013 started racing in 1958 with a Morris Minor, but went on to win Australian Drivers\u2019 Championships in 1968 and 1969, the 1974 Bathurst 1000 and set the first 100 mile-an-hour (160 kmh) Bathurst lap in a Repco Brabham in 1967.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load\" title=\"GOSS\/BARTLETT 1974 Bathurst - Ford Falcon XA GT\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D4-7aKrBzQE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><noscript><iframe title=\"GOSS\/BARTLETT 1974 Bathurst - Ford Falcon XA GT\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D4-7aKrBzQE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>In a 32-year career, much of it with the Alec Mildren Racing team, Bartlett drove a range of single-seater and touring cars and contested Formula 5000 in the 1970s in several Lolas.<\/p>\n<p>He earned most notoriety for his Channel Nine-sponsored Chev Camaro Z28 between 1980 and 1983, especially a spectacular rollover on top of Mount Panorama in 1982.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load\" title=\"When Bartlett Rolled The Camaro\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-hl9VUxSRw0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><noscript><iframe title=\"When Bartlett Rolled The Camaro\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-hl9VUxSRw0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Sprints President Tricia Chant said Kevin Bartlett would be a big attraction at this year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKevin is a true legend of Australian motor racing, as a talented and tough competitor on track and a popular personality out of the car,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat popularity has never waned and I\u2019m sure many people will come to the Sprints just for the chance to meet him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leyburn\u2019s special guests will be present throughout the Sprints weekend to meet their many fans and celebrate the heritage of the 1949 Australian Grand Prix, which was staged on an ex-wartime airfield just outside the tiny town.<\/p>\n<p>This year will be the 24<sup>th\u00a0<\/sup>running of the Sprints, which feature more than 200 cars representing 10 decades of motoring.
