RUF’s journey began as a humble service station in Pfaffenhausen, Germany, but within three decades, it evolved into a manufacturer of high-performance supercars. Alois Ruf Jr. began modifying this iconic model by inheriting his father’s passion for automobiles, particularly the Porsche 911. As the company grew, RUF started using body-in-white 911 chassis to craft unique vehicles.<\/p>\n

One of RUF’s most famous creations, the CTR<\/a>\u2014nicknamed the “Yellowbird”\u2014debuted in 1987 as the fastest road-going Porsche and possibly the quickest car globally, boasting a claimed top speed of 213 mph. It was powered by a heavily modified 3.2-liter flat-six, enlarged to 3.4 liters and enhanced with an ignition system from the 962 race car. The key to its immense performance was the addition of twin turbochargers and intercoolers, resulting in an official rating of 469 hp\u2014though, in reality, closer to 500 hp.<\/p>\n

The CTR2<\/a> followed in 1995, based on the 993 Turbo chassis. It retained the core philosophy of high power, low weight, and extreme speed but introduced optional all-wheel drive. Its Kevlar body, lightweight glass, and custom RUF coil-over system complemented the 520-hp engine sourced from the 962<\/a> Group C race car. In 2007, RUF introduced the CTR3<\/a>, featuring a bespoke mid-engine chassis developed with Multimatic. It ensured optimal weight distribution, constructed from steel, aluminum, and Kevlar-carbon. The twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six delivered nearly 700 hp through a six-speed sequential manual. High-performance ceramic composite brakes provided stopping power, while some Porsche body panels remained.<\/p>\n

RM Sotheby\u2019s is set to present a rare 2009 RUF CTR3<\/a> at its Miami 2025 auction<\/a>, with an estimated price range of $1,000,000 to $1,300,000. One of approximately 31 units built, this example is finished in Chroma Flash Hologram Matte over a Sportrot leather interior. It is one of just three believed to feature this unique exterior color. Originally ordered in 2007 by a Southern California collector, and arrived in the U.S. in 2010. It features Stone Grey carpets, Grey Alcantara trim, a hydraulically adjustable front axle, and an extended navigation system.<\/p>\n

Its twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six engine produces an impressive 682 horsepower. At the time of cataloging, the car displayed only 1,827 miles. Additionally, it has undergone over $22,000 worth of mechanical servicing by an RUF specialist, including new gearbox components sourced directly from the manufacturer, such as a fresh clutch, double-mass flywheel, and clutch plates.<\/p>\n
