It took 21 years to find a car capable of completing the 2.82 km (1.75-mile) Dunsfold circuit \u2014 better known as the Top Gear<\/a> test track \u2014 in under a minute, finally surpassing the long-standing record held by the Formula 1 Renault R24.<\/p>\n

Behind the wheel, Top Gear\u2019s mystery driver, The Stig, piloted the McMurtry Sp\u00e9irling across the finish line in an astonishing 55.9 seconds, dethroning the Renault R24\u2019s 59-second lap. For context, the Aston Martin Valkyrie previously managed a 1:09.06 lap, making the Sp\u00e9irling roughly 13.7 seconds faster.<\/p>\n

To accomplish this new feat, the British manufacturer handed The Stig a validation prototype (VP1) of its McMurtry Sp\u00e9irling Pure<\/a> \u2014 an advanced evolution of the car that shattered the Goodwood Festival of Speed record in 2022 with a 39.08-second run. This Pure version features 18-inch wheels (down from 19), wider tires on both ends, an upgraded cooling system, and a 100 kWh battery capable of charging in 20 minutes and sustaining 10 hard laps of Silverstone at full throttle.<\/p>\n

The McMurtry Sp\u00e9irling Pure has now raised the bar dramatically for track records \u2014 and it might be another 20 years before anyone can challenge the time set by The Stig. Until then, consider these almost unbelievable specs: it rockets from 0 to 100 km\/h in just 1.55 seconds, completes the quarter-mile in 8.0 seconds, and can hit 300 km\/h. This radical electric machine measures only 3.7 meters in length, has a strict 150 kg driver weight limit, and is limited to just 100 units worldwide.<\/p>\n
